Our History

Founded by Charles Halfpenny in 2000, Halfpenny Technologies is a leading provider of healthcare connectivity and integration solutions designed to facilitate interoperability between physician EMRs and hospitals, laboratories and other ancillary service providers.

The Halfpenny team has an extensive history of working together to help clients achieve their clinical data integration goals. In fact, several members of the management team and staff have been collaborating in the areas of connectivity and clinical systems integration for more than 12 years. Working with other Halfpenny team members, this core group is committed to applying its years of technology and healthcare industry experience to the continued advancement of Health Information Exchange (HIE).

Halfpenny Technologies Timeline

  • 1987 – Release of the Dr. Chart electronic medical records system
  • 1989 – Dr. Chart is the first commercially available product to support the ASTM 1238 Standard Specification for Transferring Clinical Observations Between Independent Computer Systems
  • 1990 – SmithKline, Roche and MetPath offer Dr. Chart for lab order entry and results reporting
  • 1992 – Development of Clinical Data Exchange (CDX) lab interface engine to facilitate LIS connectivity to Dr. Chart in hospital outreach settings
  • 1997 – Dr. Chart releases the first Web-based order entry and results reporting system
  • 1997 – Dr. Chart is acquired by Advanced Health Corporation
  • 2000 – Halfpenny Technologies is formed to address the growing need for connectivity between labs and their clients
  • 2001 – Halfpenny Technologies introduces Interface Technology Framework
  • 2003 – SecureConnect is created to facilitate communications between EMR and LIS systems
  • 2004 – Lab Data Dispatch is developed to offset deficiencies commonly found in EMR systems
  • 2006 – Process is established to perform LOINC mapping
  • 2007– Halfpenny Technologies forms partnership with Misys Healthcare to facilitate EMR interface installations
  • 2009 – Halfpenny Technologies’ proven products and services are well-positioned to meet the growing demand for Health Information Exchange (HIE)
